Mystique

The Mystique series features 1/2" (13mm) square buttons available in 1, 2, 3, 4 or 8 button configurations. This station provides a soft touch and allows the keycaps to be engraved. Each button has an indicator LED next to its top-right or top-left corner (depending on which side of the station the button is located). Individual key caps may be engraved or the top of each column may be engraved on the cover plate.

LEDs on 2-Wire and 5-Wire Network Stations

On 2-Wire or 5-Wire Network stations, the LED indicators will be RGB style indicators, with each indicator having the ability to illuminate individually in one of 7 colors and 4 brightnesses.

Optionally, the station can be ordered without any LEDs at all.

On Passive Technology stations, the LED indicators can be ordered in one of three colors, or without LEDs at all.

Digital 2-Wire

The Digital 2-Wire Network type of CueStation was designed to provide the best combination of flexibility, simplicity and cost-effectiveness. This technology uses a simple 2-wire network to connect the individual stations together that's both topology free and polarity free -- which means that any combination of home-run and daisy-chained connections can be made without regard to the polarity of the two conductors.

The 2-Wire button stations are controlled by the Universal CueStation Hub, which can power up to 10 individual 2-Wire stations, for a total of up to 80 buttons (and indicators). For systems requiring more than 10 stations, additional Hubs can be used and/or a combination of the 5-Wire stations can be used. The Hub can be connected to the host system by either RS-232 or Ethernet protocols (which are fully documented).

The 2-Wire network is recommended primarily for retrofit (where the project is limited by the existing, typically 2 conductor, wiring) or very small new installations. It is strongly recommended to use the 5-Wire CueStation network for all new installations.

Digital 5-Wire

The Digital 5-Wire Network type of CueStation was designed to provide an increased number of stations on the same network with greater cable distances. This technology uses a 5-wire network to connect the individual stations together in a daisy-chained topology.

The 5-Wire button stations are controlled by the Universal CueStation Hub, which can power up to 50 individual 5-Wire stations, for a total of up to 400 buttons (and indicators). For systems requiring more than 50 stations, additional Hubs can be used and/or a combination of the 2-Wire stations can be used. The Hub can be connected to the host system by either RS-232 or Ethernet protocols (which are fully documented).

Passive

Passive CueStations simply provide dry-contact switch closures for direct connection to devices that are expecting a contact closure to activate an event. There is a single terminal for each switch plus an extra terminal which is the "switch common" on the back of the station. For example, on a six button station, seven conductors would be needed (the six switches, plus one common).

The Passive CueStation is designed to be directly connected to the contact closure inputs and digital output ports of a CueServer processor, however, these stations can be used in a wide variety of custom applications as well.

The LED indicators on a Passive station are wired similarly. Each LED has a single terminal on the back of the station, plus an additional terminal for the LED common. By default, the LEDs are wired with all of the positive (+) leads tied together as the LED common and the negative (-) leads are all separately wired to the LED terminals. This allows the LEDs to be controlled by a switched-to-ground connection for each LED. The station includes LED current limiting resistors normally set up for 5VDC operation. Hubs

Overview

The CueStation Universal Network Hub is a multi-purpose interface for controlling button stations that use either 2-Wire or 5-Wire network technologies. The Hub acts as both a power supply for the stations as well as a gateway for allowing host systems to receive button events and instruct the button indicators to illuminate in various ways. The Network Hub is not used with Passive stations. The Network Hub (with optional Ethernet) communicates with the host system by RS-232 and/or Ethernet messages.

Wiring

The 2-Wire CueStation Bus uses a 2-conductor cable to carry both power and data to and from each station location. The network is both topology free (meaning a random combination of “star” and “daisy-chain” connections may be used) and polarity free (meaning it does not matter if the conductors are reversed at any station).

Expansion Module

Overview

The CueStation Digitial I/O Module adds 8 contact closure inputs and 8 digital low-voltage outputs to the CueStation bus. These I/O signals can be used to interface with external devices such as contact closures, pushbuttons, key switches, LED indicators, relays and more.

The I/O Module uses the 5-Wire CueStation Bus for maximum reliability and network cable distances. Each module also includes two RJ-45 jacks for easily attaching multiple modules together using short CAT-5 type jumper cables. Each Input and Output on the Module has a simple spring-terminal for attaching discrete wiring.

The Module is furnished in a DIN-Rail compatible enclosure. The DIN-Rail clips can be removed to facilitate surface mounting the Module with two screw holes. The PCB may also be removed from the housing for other custom installations.

Typical applications include architectural lighting in commercial and residential buildings, building management, entertainment lighting, trade shows, themed entertainment, museums, abd others.

Dip Switch Settings

  • The Address Dip Switches select which station number the Digital I/O Module will respond to. Set switches to ON to choose the station address in Binary.
  • For example, Station #7 can be chosen by turning on switches 1, 2, & 4.
  • Valid Station Addresses range from 1 to 64.
  • Please note that no two stations on the same Hub can have the same Station Address.

Connection Details

Common Terminals: The 3 Common terminals provide +24VDC output (when the DIO-588 is powered from a 24VDC input). The power supply circuit in the DIO-588 takes 24VAC or 24VDC and rectifies it to provide a 24VDC output on the Common terminals. If AC is used to power the DIO-588, then the Common output will be higher (as high as +33VDC, since this is the peak rectified voltage of a 24VAC sine wave).

Output Terminals: The 8 Output terminals provide a “pull-to-ground” circuit similar to how the CueServer outputs work. When the output is “on”, it connects the output terminal to ground. When the output is “off”, the terminal is left floating (which does not complete a circuit).

Some devices may be effected by the relatively high 24VDC provided by the Common output. They may need to be exchanged for appropriate device, or a resistor of appropriate value can be put in line with the device. For example, a resistor would need to be used with a 5V coil relay used on the 24VDC Common line, or a 24V coil relay would need to be used.

Input Terminals: The 8 Input terminals require a positive voltage to detect a switch closure. The minimum switch input voltage for a positive “closure” detection is 20 VDC. This means that if the Common is used to provide voltage to contact closures, the output of Common must be above 20VDC before the inputs will work.

Power Requirements: The CueStation Hub must be powered by 24V (AC or DC) for connected ST-DIO-588 modules to function properly. If the Hub is powered by 12V, the ST-DIO588 will not operate as expected.
